Open Mic Sessions @ Arts Cafe

Posted on: May 16, 2008

We played an acoustic set at Arts Cafe today. Although Yuk and Mik couldn’t join us due to school, we managed to pull it off. Jonathan, who runs the place, is a very talented pianist. But he’s very modest whenever we praise him

I still can’t figure out the name of the instrument Edmund was playing. I call it ‘the Box’ Haha!

We’re supposed to perform at Victoria Concert Hall in July, but the organiser’s email has left us wondering why they can’t afford to rent equipment for us when they can afford to rent such an expensive venue

Here’s what they sent us via email:

“Hi Performers,
Due to a large oversight on our part, we are unable to supply the drum set and keyboards (if you are unable to bring them).
Furthermore, the Vctoria Theatre does not provide amps. From now till 23rd May, we will try to search for sponsors to provide the instruments. As for the amps, we will require you to bring your own along with the necessary cables. In the event that you are unable to provide your own amps, we regret to inform you that we will be unable to support your performance at the concert. Rest assured that we will do our best to source for instruments and sponsors.
Hope you understand. Thank you and we deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused.
P.S. If you have contacts and friends who are willing to loan out their equipment as a contribution to a worthy cause, let us know and we will pay for the transport.”
My advice to all young musicians out there, please don’t work with this kind of organizer. Not only they are trying to take advantage of you but also they are destroying our music scene.

On a brighter note, here’s a clip of us performing your favorite song on acoustic!!! enjoy!!

Hey guys, you were close on the name of the instrument Edmund was playing. It is called the Cuban box drum aka Cajon (ka-hon). You were practising the acoustic version in your previous post for this show? Cool.

About your organizer.. you’re right, they can find Victoria Concert Hall but not vendors who can sponsor the instruments and yada yada.. what is dis, man.. apa ini…
